Incident & Accident Investigation

Fire Cause & Origin, Scene Analysis & Reconstruction, Forensic Analysis, Fire Growth & Spread Analysis, and Expert Witness Testimony

Incident Investigation & Supporting Services

Our staff have extensive experience in conducting incident & accident investigations involving fires and explosions at manufacturing facilities, chemical plants, refineries, hospitals, large commercial properties, and residential settings

Fire Investigation & Analysis

Most fire analyses require an understanding of the cause and origin of the fire.  Our investigators follow the scientific method as discussed in NFPA 921, Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations, as well other guidelines to collect and analyze data in the field as well as in the laboratory. We have extensive experience conducting fire investigations involving scene documentation, evidence collection, and burn pattern analysis. We further our field work with logical laboratory and computer modeling work to support or refute hypotheses on the fire development. Our engineers actively teach Fire & Explosion Investigation courses to clients. In addition Mr. Ryder teaches the graduate fire & explosion investigation course at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Fire Growth & Spread Analysis

shutterstock_214896274Fire Growth & Spread examines how the products of combustion (i.e. heat, flames, smoke) migrate from the point of origin and spread throughout a structure or area. The flame spread is dependent on the structure or environment in which the fire is present and thus items such as building construction and building systems play a key role in the fire development. Material flammability, ventilation, fire suppression and other building systems may impact the fire growth. Understanding the interaction of these systems is essential to understanding how and why the damage occurred and what may have been the culprit. Often an analysis if performed to determine what conditions led to the loss, regardless of what the initial cause of the fire was.

Explosion Investigation & Modeling

6479neargopxyzOur engineers have investigated some of the largest industrial explosions around the world over the past 15 years. We apply the latest in forensic science and state of the art tools to aid in our investigation and reconstruction of the incident. Not only do we have skilled investigators but we also have practicing design and risk engineers who can aid in bringing operations online in a safe and efficient manner.

Expert Witness Services

shutterstock_180308789Our staff has provided deposition and courtroom testimony for cases in state, district, and federal courts throughout the country. We ensure that our clients are fully briefed technically and that they understand where they stand from a scientific perspective. We believe that clear early communications are the key to a successful resolution.
